Trump Takes a Detour to Blue State with Coachella Rally

Trump and his team know they almost certainly won't be winning these deep blue states, but the former president (and proud loser of a man who couldn't bear to accept years ago that he lost in 2020), has lately been saying he gets more backing from California than Harris does — yes, in a state where Trump was blown out four years ago.
“Even if California had an honest election, I think that you'd have at least six victories right there,” Trump said on a Southern California radio show discussing the state's mail-in voting approach.
His admirers, however, point out that these visits are far more calculated than pastime. These states also have thousands of Republican voters, and therefore are donor bases to help raise money in a fundraising state that can be critical for House races in competitive districts.
Trump himself said, "We have a lot of support in California and I felt I owed it to them" adding that the Coachella Valley rally was held at a "(bleeping) beautiful piece of land. He used the visits to also draw attention to what he says are failings under Democratic governance, as when at his recent Detroit rally, where he argued that a Harris victory would harm everyone.
Trump is not a complete loss in blue territory; he can still fire off pithy criticisms there without worrying about getting beaten at the ballot box, especially in California, where Harris has held key roles.
“California is a place I love, and one day we will win it,” Trump said before noting that he felt “almost obligated'” to the events because of his support in Coachella Valley and Riverside County. His rallies are also opportunities for him to present issues he blames on Democratic leadership — like at the Detroit event, which Trump used as a backdrop in explaining how a Harris victory would bring trouble across the land.
Not so in blue states though, particularly California — a state hailing from which Harris has made herself at the center of mainstream political life.
A Trump communications director, had said the rallies are meant to feature Harris's record and contrast it with Trump solutions for challenges facing different states. Candidate will have national media to actuate that message including, hopefully, thousands upon thousand of visitors at a time.
Thus, going places like Colorado is seen by Trump's advisers as a means of broadening the appeal to voters they believed were not necessarily regular participants in politics. His campaign has even reached out to popular YouTube streamers and podcast hosts in an affortt to reach younger,more apolitical audiences; a technique Harris herself adopted.
